Investigation on the presence of Strawberry latent ringspot virus in Turkey and its role in the aetiology of Fig Mosaic Disease
Abstract
A survey was carried out to assess the sanitary status of fig in the Aegean region (Turkey) and to study the etiological role of Strawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRSV) in mosaic disease (MD). A total of 145 samples of different varieties were collected and tested by RT-PCR for the presence of Fig leaf mottle-associated virus 1 (FLMaV-1), Fig leaf mottle-associated virus 2 (FLMaV-2), Fig mild mottling-associated virus (FMMaV), Fig latent virus 1 (FLV-1), Fig mosaic virus (FMV), Fig cryptic virus (FCV), Fig fleck-associated virus (FFkaV), Fig Badnavirus (FBV) and SLRSV. PCR results showed that about 91% of the samples were infected with at least one virus, with the prevalence of FBV (91%), FMV (89%) and SLRSV (71%). The high FMV infection did not allow to study the etiological role of SLRSV in MD. Based on PCR results, 5 potential virus-tested candidate clones were identified.
